COURT GRANTS 20 MILLION NAIRA BAIL TO
JAMB OFFICIAL WHO CLAIMED SNAKE SWALLOWED MONEY
The trial Judge of the F.C.T High
Court sitting in Abuja granted a bail of 20 million to JAMB official who
claimed that a snake swallowed #35,480,000.00 kept in her custody.

The trial Judge Justice Peter Affen, granted
the bail on Monday to the JAMB clerical officer, Mrs. Philomina Chieshe and
that she must present two sureties in like sum following the motion filed by
her counsel Mark
Mrs. Chieshe was arraigned last Friday alongside Samuel Sale Umoru( a
state coordinator with JAMB) by the Economic And Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).
Justice Peter Affen, ruling in the
bail application declared that the bail was not about setting people free, but
to ensure that a defendant attends trial. According to the Judge’s ruling, the
sureties provided must own landed properties in Abuja with the value of the
bail sum also ordering the defendant’s counsel to make available in writing,
the good characters of the sureties.
He ruled that the addresses of the sureties would be verified by the
court registrar, while the defendants must drop her international passport with
the court. The Judge also ordered that the defendant be remanded at Suleja
prison, pending when the defendant meets bail conditions.
The defendant’s counsel prayed the court to grant bail to his client,
arguing that contrary to the submissions of the prosecution, she was granted
administrative bail by EFCC and didn’t jump bail
This was opposed by the EFCC counsel,
Mr Ekene Iheanacho, praying the court to decline the application, saying that
she had jumped bail.
