ABOUT UNIMAID:
University of Maiduguri, Borno (UNIMAID) was created on 1975 as one of the 2nd generation universities by the federal military government in Borno state. It inherited the premises of the then North East College of Arts and Sciences (NECAS).
On April 1975, UNIMAID was established and commenced her academic programs on October 1976 and first enrolled 743 students across 3 faculties; arts and education, science, and social science and law.
In 1978, the number of faculties rose to six with the creation of faculty of agriculture and the separation of faculty of arts from education as well as faculty of law from social sciences.
On its inception, a 2-year Basic studies program was introduced which was later transformed into a single year remedial program for both arts and sciences.
UNIMAID is situated at northeastern part of Nigeria positioned at the boundary of Nigeria and 3 other countries (NIGER, CHAD and CAMEROON). For this reason and others, the university has attracted students from within and outside Nigeria and also has teaching staff of diverse background.
